Enrichment & Co-Curriculum

Music & Dance

At Tula’s International School, one of the top residential schools in Dehradun, music is not regarded as a standalone subject but is incorporated into the curriculum itself. It is an integral part of every student’s life. The Music Academy at Tula’s offers students a wide array of opportunities in both music and dance. The school has well qualified teachers who teach students to play a variety of musical instruments, such as the guitar, congo drums, violin, sitar, keyboards, drums, harmonium, table, and to sing as well. Students are exposed to western as well as Indian classical dance forms.

Art & Craft

As one of the reputed CBSE schools in Dehradun, Tula’s has the only Art & Craft workstation of its kind in Uttarakhand. Called ‘Colours’, it continually strives to inspire its students to display their creativity under the capable guidance of art teachers. Students are exposed to different mediums for a wholesome education in the artistic sphere. Portrait painting, clay modeling, sketching, crafts, Madhubani painting, and creating sculptures are some of the creative pursuits that students enjoy doing during their art and craft classes.

Multi Culturism

Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam-The world is one family, goes an ancient Sanskrit saying. This is especially true in these times of social and religious strife. In this age of interdependence it is important for a child to understand and appreciate cultures different from his own. This promotes respect and tolerance in a child for people of different religious and cultural denominations.

The beauty of India lies in its diversity. This is a country that has people of all religious affiliations and more than a hundred languages. Moreover, today, we are living in a globalized world where it has become important for young students to engage in multi-cultural initiatives and learn about alien cultures. One of Dehradun’s best schools, TIS promotes a multicultural curriculum for several reasons as cited by Keith Wilson:

  • It provides alternative points of view relative to information already taught in most educational systems.
  • It promotes inclusiveness by providing ethnic minorities with a sense of being considered as playing a role in history, science, etc.
  • It decreases stereotypes, prejudice and racism across the world.

Trips & Excursions

As befits its reputation as one of the best residential schools in Dehradun, Tula’s organizes frequent trips and excursions to expose students to the vibrant world that lies outside the schoolroom. The school field trip has a long history in public education. For decades, students have piled into yellow buses to visit a variety of cultural institutions, including art, natural history, and science museums, as well as theatres, zoos, and historical sites. Although going on a school outing means escaping the classroom drudgery for a day, the learning is not necessarily paused-rather enhanced. On a field trip, students interact with each other and with their teachers in a less formal environment, where they have the opportunity to enrich their education through actual experience.

Outbound adventure trips where students handle the unknown learn co-operation and develop unity, form a part of the yearly calendar at this Dehradun CBSE school. Students come out of their comfort zone and learn and experience new possibilities of their existence. Besides adventure trips the school also organizes various educational visits to the Indian Military Academy, the Forest Research Institute, and various other educational institutes, such as the Wadia Institute and Survey of India.

All the trips and excursions are planned keeping the child’s age and interests in mind. Some of the adventure sports that the students can enjoy are mountaineering, white-water rafting, para-sailing, trekking, kayaking, camping, etc. which are performed in the presence of trained professionals with all the requisite safety checks in place.

Since ancient times when students used to study at gurukuls, the concept of education has changed dramatically. Today, besides the 3Rs – reading, writing and arithmetic, the aim of education has become to encompass all-round development of a child so he can contribute to society and play his part in developing the country. At TIS, the child’s education aims at the intellectual growth of a child, by exposing him to a comprehensive training regimen.

As one of the best boarding schools in Dehradun, TIS’s curriculum is meant to hone all aspects of a child’s personality. At Tula’s, the curriculum has been tailored to meet the needs of students. In this child-centric curriculum, sports, co-curricular and other varied activities are considered integral to a child’s development.

The need of each child is considered paramount. There are a variety of clubs at TIS, geared towards the talents of each child. Children are regularly taken out for expeditions and adventure trips. Art and theatre performances take place almost every month. At the same time, academics is given its rightful due, for there must be work in the midst of play! Education at Tula’s is for life-a motto which the school follows unswervingly.

Foreign Langauges

Foreign languages have suddenly become in vogue at Indian schools and universities. With globalization-and the increasing reach of the Internet-it was inevitable that these languages would find a ready market in developing nations. Foreign language schools are sprouting like mushrooms all over major Indian cities and even small towns. Take German, for instance. Learning German would benefit students, professionals, engineering, and hospitality and aviation personnel, as well as home makers, who wish to work part or full-time. Students at the University of Mumbai’s Department of German get a chance to pursue studies at German and Austrian Universities under many academic exchange programmes. A wide range of exchange programme exists for both school and university students between Germany and many countries in the world.

At Tula’s International School we offer German and French to our students. A student at a foreign language class is exposed to a whole new language structure which makes him/her more conscious of vocabulary, grammar, conjugation, idioms, sentence construction, comprehension and conversing.

With universal unemployment and a worsening economic crisis, a multilingual ability offers a foreign language student a competitive edge over other candidates. So learning a foreign language gives our students the opportunity to appear for international examinations like the TOFEL, JLPT, DELE etc. Students can find a lucrative career in the field of translation.

Due to growing economic relations between India and various countries of the world, knowing a foreign language is a definite asset. The Indian government is also doing its bit by instructing educational bodies to include foreign languages as part of the national curriculum.
